Ulysses S. Grant - from the Civil War Series

Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885) - Union Lt. General - Gained national fame with "unconditional surrender" victory at Fort Donelson. Crafted brilliant wins at Vicksburg, Chattanooga. Forced Lee's Surrender. U.S. President 1869-77. -

postmarked - First Day of Issue - June 29, 1995 in Gettysburg, PA - with matching stamp

a few lines from Wikipedia:

Ulysses S. Grant, born Hiram Ulysses Grant (April 27, 1822 – July 23, 1885), was an American general and the eighteenth President of the United States (1869–1877). He achieved international fame as the leading Union general in the American Civil War.

Grant first reached national prominence by taking Forts Henry and Donelson in 1862 in the first Union victories of the war.

In 1868, Grant was elected president as a Republican. Grant was the first president to serve for two full terms since Andrew Jackson forty years before.

Unsuccessful in winning a third term in 1880, bankrupted by bad investments, and terminally ill with throat cancer, Grant wrote his Memoirs, which was enormously successful among veterans, the public, and the critics.

NPCW - SpaceShipOne

(Upper left and upper right) On June 21, 2004 SpaceShipOne became the first privately owned craft to visit space. In competition for the X-Prize, it successfully completed two more flights to space on September 29 (lower left) and October 4, 2004(lower right). The pilot for the first two flights was Mike Melvill. The pilot for the final, winning flight was Brian Binnie. The $10,000,000 X-Prize went to Burt Rutan and Scaled Composites who designed and built the craft in Mojave, California. Mojave airport, although small, is the first landlocked space port in history. -

Tigers, "Dr. Ruth", and a Coaster!

We owe it all to Dr. Ruth. (an American sex therapist and author)

I love this very unique postcard!!!

It's from 'RUSS' Russ Berrie & Company, Inc. MCMLXXXIV (1984, I think!)

It is laminated on both sides, and the back has a sticker on it with the 'Send to:' where you put the address, and a place to put the stamp. Then on the bottom it reads: 'Peel off the label to use card as a coaster'
unused

Maybe it's just me, but these tigers are too cute to put a drink on!

Exaggeration postcard with Alligator

All the way from Florida

The Alligator is a native of the Florida Everglades. For some time its skin has been fashionably used in the manufacture of bags, shoes, etc., and with this increasing use they had been hunted until they ere almost extinct. To remedy this situation and supply the demand, several thriving Alligator farms are now in operation, where the breeding and care of alligators is the main industry.
